Applications...
When to Use Unfinished...
 | When the flooring is installed over concrete with humps
and/or dips exceeding 1/4" per 10', and the floor cannot be ground down
or patched, (if a plywood system or a sleeper system is used, the concern of
the humps and dips on concrete is not necessary). |
 | If "overwood" problems occur from bad sub
floor milling. |
 | If a stain is required. |
 | If HG is unsure that the finish or milling on our
flooring will hold up due to any "unusual in nature" commercial
use. |
When to Use Pre-Finished...
 | When dust contamination and/or production time is of
concern. |
 | If the customer does not want to spend an additional
$1.00 to $2.00 per square foot to sand and finish the floor. If the pre-finished floor throughout the construction
process is scratched or damaged, it may be screened and coated with another
layer of flooring urethane. |
More About Unfinished...
 | Be advised that unskilled finishers can take 1 to 2 "sandings"
out of the life of the floor. Their finished product most generally
will have sander marks from large machines and marks from edge or buffer
head. These may not be noticed until after a coat of finish is
applied. |
 | In general, it takes an extra 5 days for the job to be
completed. For example, in a 3,000 square foot job:
 | Two skilled installers can sand about 1,000 square
feet a day. |
 | At the end of the third day, the first coat of
finish can usually be applied, depending on job conditions. |
 | On the fourth day, the second coat of finished
should be applied based on the humidity in the building if it is dry
enough to screen, (scratch the surface for bonding of next coat). |
 | If additional coats are required, repeat step
3. At this time for the final coat, the job site must be dusted
free so that the finish is not contaminated with dust of dirt. No
heavy traffic should be allowed for at least 72 hours after the final
coat. |
|
 | It takes the same amount of time to lay either pre-finished
or unfinished flooring. |
